Madurai IT Park - Less Occupancy Solution - More companies to come forward - Relaxing the terms by Government will help

The CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) Madurai Chapter has urged the government to relax the terms and conditions for occupancy in Madurai IT Park Ilandaikulam and other locations.

The Tamil Nadu State IT minister R B Udhayakumar that the IT parks set up during the past DMK regime was unfit for occupation by IT companies. Last month, Udhayakumar, who inspected the IT park at Madurai said that the facility was not even fit to be a "children's park." - According to press report.

Ashok, chairman, CII, southern region said that it was not so. "The norms and guidelines for entry of IT companies need to be relaxed to facilitate even small firms to set up their units in the IT parks,".

Many companies are ready to occupy, if the norms are relaxed a little bit. Also a some of the important companies in Madurai suggested to share office spaces, and have mutual agreements, if Government allows to do so, since there are more tiny, small and medium sized Software companies in Madurai.

Local Madurai companies has to be helped in setting up offices in Madurai IT Park first, and then give chance to MNC companies in Madurai. That will help lot of economy in Madurai to start with.

HTC Global Services opens office in Chennai for BPO - has land in Madurai and Trichy

IT and BPO company, HTC Global Services inaugurated its 1.5 lakh sq ft facility at Guindy in Chennai on Tuesday. While the centre can house about 1,500 employees, HTC plans to hire over 3,000 professionals over the next one year, senior company official said.

Madhava Reddy, founder-president and CEO of HTC, said: “We invested over Rs 300 crore in the last one year to expand our current facilities in MEPZ (Madras Export Processing Zone) and to acquire new facilities in Chennai and Hyderabad. The centre in Guindy is our first own campus and we plan to move certain insurance operations there in phases.”

Michigan-headquartered HTC offers IT and back office solutions to clients across verticals.

According to Chary Mudumby, VP of HTC, the company is also considering expansion in a few tier II cities in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. HTC has land in cities including Thiruchirapalli (Trichy) and Madurai and it is mulling about starting BPO operations in the second tier cities, he added.

SIDA Meet at Dot Com Infoway Madurai

The Annual Planning Meeting of SIDA (Software Industries Development Association of South Tamil Nadu) was held at the premises of Dot Com Infoway’s Madurai office on December 22, 2010.

SIDA (Software Industries Development Association of South Tamil Nadu) was formally launched in October 2010 with the primary objective of supporting local software services companies to achieve international standards and thereby, create a conducive environment for Information Technology in South Tamil Nadu, India. As a part of the forum’s activities, an Annual Planning Meeting was held at Dot Com Infoway’s Madurai office premises recently, on December 22, 2010.

The President of SIDA, Mr. R. Sivarajah of Winways Systems Private Limited welcomed the members and briefed the establishment process of the forum and spelled out objectives of the meeting. He also briefed on the work plan for the year 2011. The Secretary of SIDA, Mr. Ashwin Desai of A&T Network Systems announced the proposed structure of the forum, including that of the chairpersons for SIDA’s various panels.

Madurai IT Park progress - July 22nd 2010

Just couple of days back, Information Minister Poongothai mentioned that most of the work for IT park of Madurai is completed and it is expected for the completion of the project and Madurai IT Park will be ready by third week of September 2010.

However, as per today's news - it is heard that there is too much lag in the progress of Madurai IT park project. Electricity, water facility, chilling facility etc., are not yet done. Overall, it looks like only 30% of the work is done, though it was mentioned that 70% was done.

While Trichy, Coimbatore's IT Park is ready or almost ready to be used by Software companies, Madurai IT park is suffering this much and it is not getting completed! Why is that so?

Also - slowly software companies are reconsidering and renegotiating for their settlement in Madurai.

If we don't facilitate proper infrastructure and IT buildings/campus for the companies, it would be difficult for us to get started with IT park in Madurai.

The budget is allocated, private enterprises are engaged for building the IT park and why it is delayed for launching IT park in Madurai. What is the reason IT park in Madurai is being talking past 2 years, but the project is not completed at all, even though the deadlines are crossed so many times.
