Various categories of industries in Madurai

Madurai is a place which shows a versatility in industries but the thing is it will be well organized way of establishment for eg. Granite cutting and polishing industrial units in Melur and Sivagangai road alone. Textile mills near Tirumangalam, Kappalur, Kallupatti and Kariyaapatti areas alone etc. So, there are many textile industries in and around Madurai of which we captured some alone which may be samples of all those kinda industries.

Not forgetting BPOs/Call Centers - Voice and Non-Voice, IT/Software, Hardware and ITeS companies in and around Madurai.

* Agro-based
* Textiles
* Auto-mobiles
* Granite Industries
* Rubber Industries
* Chemical Industries
* Healthcare products industries
* Steel/Alloy Industries
* IT/BPO Industry - Though no IT biggies except 2 units from Honeywell, We have many small scale IT companies and well-established BPO base.

Who said Madurai is not industrialized? No Industries in madurai? No Never

Madurai, which is known to the world as a Temple City has a real strong industrial background. The TVS group's growth which looks really massive started from their establishment in Madurai dates back to the year 1911. They have their units of TVS Tyres (Srichakra tyres), ZF Electronics TVS, TVS InterConnect Systems (TVS ICS), Firestone TVS, Sundaram Brake Linings, Sundaram Fasteners ltd, Sundaram sewing needles, Sundaram textiles, TVS Rubber. And none could forget the Madura Coats which was involved in Coat and fabric production and their world known brands Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Peter England, Allen Solly, Byford and San frisco. Now, they do produce only sewing threads here. TAFE Tractors have their plant here near Vadipatti. Fenner ltd that has been acquired by JK Tyres has 3 of their plants in Madurai and surrounding areas for manufacturing Industrial belts. PRP Granites and exports is a real big industry in Madurai. One could find numerous small and medium scale industries in SIPCOT and SIDCO of Kappalur, K.Pudur, Urangaanpatti and Nilakottai region. And we come across many industrial news then and
there which shows that the investors are interested to invest in Madurai.

We will write more about it - sourced information from other madurai activists and enthusiasts.

Periyar Bus stand's Overhead passengers walkway bridge to be removed - unified decision taken

As you all know, there is a Overhead passengers walkway bridge in Periyar Bus stand. For the people to walk from the Temple side (or south side city bus stand in Periyar Bus stand) to and fro to North and West side City Bus stand in Madurai Periyar Bus stand.

There had been complaints that the bridge was not being used by the passengers/pedestrians and everyone crosses the road directly. Because of this traffic congestion happens and also accidents happen. Moreover pedestrians used the overhead bridge as toilets only and other anti-social activities.

Yesterday a decision in Corporation was taken for removal of the bridge itself and that was accepted. It will take 15 days to remove it in a normal way, so they are going to appoint a kerala group who would take it out in just one day.

Very nice (sarcastically)!! We build the bridge with people's money and now we destroy it again by spending some more money. Why can't we think about it in first place itself!? Even the newspaper's like Dinamalar mentioned not to construct this in first place and no one will use it properly, but no one listened to it.

Why can't we come up with usable ideas? Or atleast why can't the people use it properly?! Mistake lies in both sides. But the decision to destroy the bridge itself is completely not acceptable. Why can we use it properly by regulating it properly?

Here is an idea...If we build a rails in between this road, people cannot cross the road directly, and the people will be compelled to use the bridge only. Why can't we do that? Will that affect the business over there? The businesses over there can use vehicles to move between these roads.

I think building rails in between road is the good idea, instead of destroying it. If needed, try to expand the bridge, instead of destroying it.

Humble request to all the officers.

Power cuts in Madurai Trichy Coimbatore Chennai Tamil Nadu - Very bad on Tamil Nadu Government

Power cuts are very bad. How do you expect us to run businesses depending upon computers and electronic machines. This is very bad. We pay taxes - we pay income tax, sales tax, service tax. Everything is being done from our side. But why does the government treat us like this?

Government tells us to develop entrepreneurship and develop businesses, so that more number of employment can be created. But, if the government does like this, how will we improve our business and how will we improve our revenue. We will have to run out of loss and then close our businesses.

This is the cry of employers. We cannot hold our knowledge workers (employees) just sitting idle before the computer, when the computer is off.

People are coming back to our country to do businesses in our own land, but the government is not supporting us. Even the few who are coming to our country will go back to foreign countries and also who is studying here will not stay here.

This is too bad on the government and this is killing our own economy.

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Tamil Nadu Government....Ministers and all the officials, who could resolve this problem....Are you listening????????

Ithu kadumayaaga kandikkappadukirathu.

A new outlook of Madurai International Airport's utility

After many news broadcasts and little delays, at last Madurai International Airport is inaugurated and opened recently.

Now, what?

How do we have the Airport functioning and useful!? Madurai Airport will function as international airport, only when international flights come in and go out of Madurai Airport. Why there is no news on that? Here is the reason -

Flight operators were complaining that Customs Checking Operation division has to be opened in Madurai Airport, then only International flights can operate. When asked with the Customs operations, they are telling International Flights has to operate then only Customs can be started.

Having this situation, there had been discussions between officers and now conclusions are made lately that in a month's time flights will operate. Basically, in 2 weeks Customs will start it seems (Government's message), and automatically international flights would start working in another 2 weeks (assumption).

In one month - Madurai to Colombo will be operated by Srilanka Airlines, Air India Express; Madurai To Dubai will be operated by Air Arabia; Madurai to Singapore will be operated by Air Asia. Air Lanka will operate from Colombo to Europe and America.
Air Lanka has decided to provide flights from Colombo to all across the world, which means flights are connected from Madurai to all around the world!!

There are numerous advantages of Madurai International Airport and flights -
Every time, people from Southern districts have to go to Chennai to fly out of the country. Now, it is a great step that people from Southern districts can fly from Madurai to anywhere in the world, directly from Madurai.

As on date - people travelling from Chennai to all south asian countries are most of them are from southern districts of Tamil Nadu. Almost 70% are from Madurai and southern districts. With the Madurai international airport, people can directly fly to and fro Madurai to anywhere in the world.

Also, all the tourists from Tamil Nadu can go from Madurai directly to anywhere in the world - which helps them with lesser travel and also lesser cost for the trip.

Also, the international tourists from Asian countries who visit Kanyakumari, Meenakshi Amman Temple, Coutrallam etc., can come to Madurai directly, instead of coming to Chennai and then coming to Madurai in different modes of transports!

Great job by the Government!!! We at Madurai247.com thank the government for Madurai's International Airport!!!! Great step and this is going to change Madurai for good! First step haan!

Madurai Ring road

Sponsored by OruAcre.com

This is one of the things I was glad to see in Madurai, after my 3 years visit to Madurai.

Roads are very well made to connect outside the villages as a bypass to many villages. This makes it exactly like Freeways in many foreign countries. The way the symbols are done are very well planned. I am sure, officials had visited developed nations to study and implement in Madurai and other areas.

My only worry here is - people do not follow traffic symbols really and on other hand - I am hoping the roadways will be well maintained as it was built at first place. Hope it does not become like just another road and holes show up in freeway, which actually will lead to slowness of traffic and leads to accidents etc.,.

I felt great to see the STOP symbols and YIELD symbols - though they are not actually followed. The concept of exit in the highways - which took some time for me in my visit to a developed country the very first time.

All day long Power cuts in Madurai

Today, in certain areas in Madurai - there is all day long power cut. It is from 9 AM to 5 PM. How are people living here? It is unbelievable?!

How do businesses run here? Would they use some kind of generator/inverter?

What would residential communities do about it? How do they manage in this hot weather? Would it not affect the businesses which needs power?

What is the reason to the power cuts? Is it because there is not enough power generated? or god's sake we are living in a state where power is generated (Neyveli)!

I don't have answers to any of this! We take lot of things for granted and learn to adjust to the life, based on what is provided! We are never trying to rectify or fix the situation...

Madurai Tirunagar to Madurai Airport Road Infrastructure Approved

It is a great news about Madurai infrastructure update.

Sponsored by OruAcre.com

Since there is IT park coming up in Vadapazhanji area in Madurai, it was evaluated that there is a possibility of lot of traffic from Tirunagar area and traffic from Theni area in future. If anybody has to go to Madurai Airport from Theni or Thirunagar area in Madurai, they have to go a long way via Palgalai nagar, Vadapazhanji, Thirunagar, Kappalur, Ring road to reach Madurai Airport. This leads too much time and lot of petrol wastage.

Hence, there was a proposal for a road from Tirunagar to Madurai Airport and it is approved by Tamil Nadu State Transport.

Great! It is an infrastructure improvement in Madurai and at the same time Madurai Real Estate will have great improvement in that area.

Building Height restrictions around Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple

Around 250 buildings are ordered to be demolished around Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple, due to the fact that these buildings did not consider height limits or bribed the officers to construct the buildings over the corporation height limits.

These tall buildings around 1 kilometer radius are to be removed by Corporation/Police safely as soon as possible. There had been allegations on lot of bribe charges against certain few officers approving these constructions on non-compliance on heights in the city around Madurai Meenakshmi amman temple.

One of the important initiators (or the person who pulled the old files out) was Mr.Velladurai, Police Commissioner - a person to be commended!

Madurai infrastructure improvement idea - for fixing a possible mistake

There is an idea by the New Madurai Group member Mr.Sampath, for one of the Madurai's infrastructure project.

Please read and participate in our forum - Forum Message click here to see the thread.

The idea is "Instead of constructing railway bridge in tiruparunkundram railway track can be sifted back of hill to save money and space."

Instead of constructing two over bridges the railway track (shown as dotted line in picture) if taken behind the hillock would be more appropriate.

More ideas like this helps and we can do the needful in terms of contributing to the society.
