Clear up the traffic for Southern Madurai! - Move the East Maret Street Onion Market and Simmakkal Fruits Market near Central Market Mattuthavani

It was a great move by the local government and funding from the state for Centralized Market near Mattuthavani for all the vegetables. This helps a lot and there gives a lot of breathing space for the traffic. Every day there are n number of cars, bikes, vans, buses being registered with RTO (Regional Transport Office, Madurai). Given these new vehicles, how will the Old Roads of Madurai around the temple handle? Obviously there will be traffic situation in Madurai, given the old narrow roads and too many vehicles. These roads were supposedly very broad roads in olden days, but today it is not.

Some of the bottlenecks for these traffic situations are -

1) During November to January, Ayyappa Devotees would halt in Madurai on their way to Sabarimala. Madurai Corporation has provisioned Ellis Nagar and Bye-pass road in Madurai for halting their vehicles, instead of staying inside the city. In an off-topic, Corporation does not provide sufficient facilities, while the corporation collects money for the parking. This is one of the good moves, since the traffic is reduced and parking is done little outside the temple area in the Madurai City.

2) Fruit Market in Simmakal - Pazhakkadai Mandi - Pazhakkadai Commission Agent Mandi. This produces lot of traffic clutter, since lot of lorries and load vans come and go in the Madurai City.

3) Onion Market in Keezha marret street - East Maret Street is another clutter, where lot of lorries and load vans block the ongoing traffic.

4) In night, there are too many lorries coming and going in the city. If these two markets also moves to the Central Market in Mattuthavani, that would be a blessing for Madurai traffic and around 70% of the traffic would be reduced.

5) Also, the parking facility is not properly provided for some of the tourist spots in Madurai like Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal. Hence, there is lot of traffic congestion.

If some improvements are undertaken, that would be great for Madurai City Traffic!!

Chennai to Madurai - Railways, Road Transport

Given the situation that more and more people from South are moving to North Tamil Nadu, other states and other countries for work and for personal reasons, there is lesser skilled labours population in Southern districts of Tamil Nadu. That is totally a different problem altogether, in the interests of this article.

If the people travelling from Chennai to Madurai and other southern districts are more, eventually there is a great demand for transport.

Say for example - for a trip to home town in Diwali season or long weekends, it becomes very very tough for all the passengers. We don't even get tickets and it is all Waiting List. Within one day, tickets are sold for Diwali season. Long queues in railway bookings. This is the situation in Railways. Why don't Railways Ministry increase the trains? I know there are special trains, but even special trains queue was booked just within 1 day.

Same situation is with Bus. In Road transport, what happens is people sell tickets for higher rates and really unreasonable rates, since there is lot of demand.

We would request more regulation from Government in all these (agents increasing ticket rates) and also increase the number of transport mechanisms, which will be useful for the general public!!

Basically - Improve Transport in and around Madurai and to/from North, since Madurai is connecting all the places around for southern districts and northern districts.

This is one of the things I was glad to see in Madurai, after my 3 years visit to Madurai.

Roads are very well made to connect outside the villages as a bypass to many villages. This makes it exactly like Freeways in many foreign countries. The way the symbols are done are very well planned. I am sure, officials had visited developed nations to study and implement in Madurai and other areas.

My only worry here is - people do not follow traffic symbols really and on other hand - I am hoping the roadways will be well maintained as it was built at first place. Hope it does not become like just another road and holes show up in freeway, which actually will lead to slowness of traffic and leads to accidents etc.,.

I felt great to see the STOP symbols and YIELD symbols - though they are not actually followed. The concept of exit in the highways - which took some time for me in my visit to a developed country the very first time.

Madurai Tirunagar to Madurai Airport Road Infrastructure Approved

It is a great news about Madurai infrastructure update.

Since there is IT park coming up in Vadapazhanji area in Madurai, it was evaluated that there is a possibility of lot of traffic from Tirunagar area and traffic from Theni area in future. If anybody has to go to Madurai Airport from Theni or Thirunagar area in Madurai, they have to go a long way via Palgalai nagar, Vadapazhanji, Thirunagar, Kappalur, Ring road to reach Madurai Airport. This leads too much time and lot of petrol wastage.

Hence, there was a proposal for a road from Tirunagar to Madurai Airport and it is approved by Tamil Nadu State Transport.

Great! It is an infrastructure improvement in Madurai and at the same time Madurai Real Estate will have great improvement in that area.

Madurai four way lane to Trichy - almost completed

The four-lane projects on the Tiruchi-Madurai section of National Highway 45 B and the Tiruchi-Tindivanam section of NH 45 are expected to be completed before July, except for a few grade separators and bridges in the urban areas.
