Improving Madurai as Industrial City - December 2010

Mr.L. Vijayakumar, Chairman, Special Task Force on Employment, Ministry of Labour and Employment addressing a workshop on Industrial Development in Madurai district organised by CII and Special Task Force on Employment, Ministry of Labour, Government of India, at Madurai Institute of Social Sciences on Tuesday said that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises should be encouraged and big players' (like Confederation of Indian Industry) help was needed and only when all industrial associations came together, industrial development in Madurai would become a reality.He said the accent should be in producing young entrepreneurs.Centre for Entrepreneurial Development is planning to make at least 1,000 entrepreneurs from 439 panchayats in Madurai during 2011, according to L. Vijayakumar.He spoke about the future plans of having bankers' meet and establishment of Entrepreneurial Development Programme Cells in some 32 educational institutions in the district.He further added that the objective of the workshop was to discuss the hurdles which were preventing industrial development in Madurai and how to overcome them.D.V.P. Raja, coordinator of the workshop, explained the need for interconnectedness between various players in the industry.A member from Madittsia opined that a trade centre was a must for proper industrial development.The participants included Arvind Srinivasan, Chairman, CII, Madurai, M. Shanmugam, Regional Director, Indira Gandhi National Open University, members from Madurai District Tiny and Small Scale Industries Association and Small Industries Product Promotion Organisation, and Spinners Association.This initiative might fructify the following projects to become a reality.

100 companies in Tamil Nadu to benefit from CII''s Employability Bridge Initiative

CII's Employability Bridge initiative would help around 100 companies in Tamil Nadu to identify potential candidates for fresh recruitment from over 30 colleges in Tamil Nadu. To ensure quality education and bridge the gap between industry and academia, CII launched the 'Employability Bridge' early this year. Around 15000 students are expected to benefit from this initiative. CII has identified Surgeforth Technologies as the program management partner for this initiative.

Mr Ambalavanan Ramachandran, Director of surgeforth Technologies said that the Institutions which have signed MOU to subscribe to the Employability Bridge platform, which include PPG Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, DMI Engineering College, Chennai, SKR Engineering College, Chennai, SRG Engineering College, Namakkal, JJ College of Engineering & Technology, Trichy, SACS MAVMM Engineering College, Madurai have signed MOU to subscribe the Employability Bridge platform. Many CII member companies have also come forward to make use of the Employability Bridge platform.

The Employability bridge is also proposed to be expanded to technical domain- Life sciences, Bio-technology, Civil & Structural Engineering and reach out to around 50 colleges in southern region. At present around 2000 students are using this platform.

Sunder Madakshira is the Vice President – Marketing and Communications at SAP Labs. His passion is generating and executing ideas which give disproportionate leverage in the market. For the past 16 years, he has worked and learnt from path-breakers and game changers in communication to customers and talent pool and other corporate stakeholders. He has played leadership roles in the sales and marketing functions at Infosys, WIPRO, Symphony Services and Hindustan Levers.
He has spoken at many industry and academic forum including at CII, NASSCOM, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta on the topics of interest in Marketing. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the T A Pai Management Institute, Manipal (TAPMI) and an Engineering Degree from the R V College of Engineering, Bangalore. He has finished top of his class throughout his academic career, winning the Prestigious Agro Evo Gold Medal award to the Best Outgoing Student at TAPMI and a Gold medallist from Bangalore University.

Green Movement in Madurai by CII Madurai Confederation of Indian Industries Thiagarajar College of Engineering TCE

The Confederation of Indian Industries (Madurai Zone) has launched a Green Movement to mark World Environment day celebrations at Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) near Madurai.

According to a release, Kalyani Associates joined the CII in undertaking the movement.

Speaking at the function last evening, T Kannan, TCE chairman, said seven lakh litres of diesel were consumed in Madurai alone,and each litre emitted two kg of carbon di oxide.

District Forest Officer Rakesh Kumar Jagania said college students should respect the forests and not litter forest areas and hills and areas around water falls.

It is good to see such movements slowly kicking in and this is a good start.

CII Madurai Zone welcomes and suggest TN Government for Tier-II cities

CII Confederation of Indian Industry Madurai Zone Chairman R. Dinesh says -

Further development of Madurai-Tuticorin corridor,focus on Madurai tuticorin airports,and linking madurai tuticorin and Madurai Tirunelveli corridors would support the industry.

Dinesh requested the government to frame a new IT policy in such a way that it helped IT companies look at investments in Tier II and Tier III cities.
