Tata Coffee plant in Madurai Theni talks with Starbucks for supply

Tata Coffee's Instant Coffee Division is India's first export-oriented soluble coffee manufacturer. The company has three 100 per cent export oriented (EOU) instant coffee manufacturing units with an installed capacity of 7600 mt per annum, producing spray dried, agglomerated and freeze dried instant coffee. One unit is located at Toopran in Hyderabad and the other two are at Theni, Madurai. The Toopran unit is an ISO- 9001: 2000 certified factory. This factory was initially set up with Brazilian technology to produce spray dried instant coffee. The aroma add-back system was introduced in 1997 and in 2001, the agglomerated plant was set up with technology from Denmark. The Theni units near Madurai in Tamil Nadu state is certified with ISO 2200-2005 meeting HACCP requirements. This basically means all coffee meant for retail sales by Starbucks will be produced and packaged by us. The official at Tata Coffee said - We are building capacity at the Madurai plant which will see capacity addition of 2,000 tonne very soon. The overall capex required for this will be to the tune of Rs50 crore.

Potential of Other districts of Tamil Nadu

Madurai Machan is going look at other cities/districts of Tamil Nadu for it's infrastructure and their potential for industrialization.

Dindigul was part of Madurai in the past, as a history. Dindigul was separated from Madurai, for administrative purposes.

Dindigul is called as The City of Locks and Tannery, because it is a tier-4 fast growing industrial city in India. The specialty of this city is textile mills and standard education. The hills such as Palani and Kodaikanal comes under Dindigul district. The Dindigul Fort is one of the most beautiful places to visit.

Dindigul is an interior region of Tamilnadu. Dindigul lies on the banks of Kudavanar River with a total landscape of 6058 sqkm. This fort is at a height of 280 ft.

Dindigul is noted for its Locks. Also Iron safe of good quality and durability are made here. A lock manufacturing unit under co-operative sector is functioning here. It is flourishing industry gives employment to wide section of people. Its one of the largest trading center in Tamil Nadu for chewing tobacco and “Roja Supari” are
produced in this town and are being sent to various places in and around the Tamilnadu. Dindigul is flourishing with handloom industry at Chinnalapatti, which is located at 11 km away from Dindigul on the Madurai-Dindigul road. Art – Silk sarees and sungudi. Sarees Produced in Chinnalapatti is famous in the district. More than 1000 families are engaged in this Industry.
