Varnam tamil movie from Madurai gets U/A certificate
Varnam (Colours) is a coming-of-age film with a difference.
S.M. Raju, who hails from Madurai, was a computer scientist based in Boston, whose passion for film-making led him to becoming a director.
He has done a course in been United States on Film-making as well and has done numerous short films.
The story is about a teenage boy who goes to live with his uncle after his father dies in a communal confrontation.
Sources said that an actual caste clash, which shook the entire state a few years ago, forms the backdrop of the film.
Ace producer-turned-politician Michael Royappan, who has seen the film’s sneak preview, was so impressed that he has grabbed Varnam’s distribution rights.
Director has worked hard to make the certificate to U, but the movie was awarded only U/A due to an unavoidable scene.
