Madurai Airport to become Customs Airport - International Terminal - Latest News Update Airport

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently submitted a feasibility report by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (CAO) recommending a second airport for Chennai on 5,000 acres in Sriperumbudur, to the State Government. A copy of the report was handed over by VP Agarwal, Chairman, AAI to Debendranath Sarangi, Chief Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu.

Talking about the Madurai airport, Agarwal said the Union Finance Ministry had issued an order notifying the Madurai airport as a Customs Airport. The AAI would now approach the State government to set up Immigration counters. Once that work was completed, a good deal of load from Tiruchi airport could be shifted to Madurai, he said.
