Villakuthoon - Madurai Tourism

Villlakuthoon is a 169 year old monument. Created by the public in memory of the then British collector Blackburn, commemorating his feat of expanding the Madurai city. It is a great landmark of the city at the junction of East Masi Street and West Masi Street. Little known fact: the presence of another villakuthoon in East Marret street similar in shape but smaller in size. Hence the two names periyavilakuthoon (big lamppost) Siriyavilakuthoon (small lamppost).
