The city that never sleeps:

Overview of the destination
This city is the South Indian state of TamilNadu. It is the second biggest city in the state. Very well known for Temples, this is a totally commercialized place. Yet it doesn’t even have the shade of modernity. A big city with all the tradition and culture is still alive! What else do you need..

Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Food, food and more food. This place is like totally dedicated for food. The typical South Indian cuisines and Madurai speciality idlis and chutney!! Let me tell you, you’ll gain at least 5 pounds in just 2 days!. There is this famous restaurant called Amma’s. Madurai style kothuparotta with shrimps and crab omelettes and chicken omelttes and biriyani and sheer fish and what not. I ate all of those in just half an hour and i’m not much of a non-vegetarian!! The hospitality was also great!! I dint shop much. I?m not much of a shopper so I have no clue on this. And about sight seeing, the temple is huge and brilliant! You could just go and spend the whole day exploring the temple and traveling back to the history.

Activities & things to do
Eat, hail an auto go around the city, drink jigr-tanda and eat again.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
Buses are available from almost all major cities and towns around. Or take a train. Try not to mess up with the people, they’re good and nice but the are pretty famous for their temper too..

An unrecognized wonder of the world:

Overview of the destination
Madurai, the seat of the Pandiya Kingdom, with her Meenakshi Amman temple, the Thirumalai Naick Palace (where the dance scenes of Guru and Bombay were done by Madurai born Director Maniratnam), the huge Mariamman Temple Tank (which was dug out to help construction of the Palace), the Gandhi Museum(where some of the belongings of the Mahatma are displayed including the blood stained shawl he wore when he was assassinated) is a Fascinating city. The huge towers of the Meenakshiamman Temple and the corridors and Mandapams of the temple have lakhs of beautiful idols which can’t be seen anywhere else on earth.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Pls see you gain accommodation in some of the hotels around the Temple and the best of local shopping can be done in and around this famous Temple. Avoid touts and ask for advise at the Hotel counters. Evening roadside restaurants here are a rage and could be an experience. Pls ask the bearer to make the food less spicy lest you choke.

Activities & things to do
An early morning visit to the Temple can soothe any frayed Tourists’ nerves. Do not miss the Light and Sound Programme at the Mahal Palace in the evenings.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
Local buses are very good. Pl avoid auto rickshaws coz they are out to swindle you.
