Madurai builders association wants government to check cement price rise

The Builders Association of India, Madurai has urged the state government to control the spiralling rise in cement price. The members have asked the government to ensure the availability of cement at a fair price in the state to continue the development works.

They said they would be forced to stop purchasing cement if the prices are not brought under controlled. In a letter addressed to the District Collector of Madurai, Er A Balasubramanain the chairman of the Madurai centre said that the price of a bag of cement has gone up from INR 145 to INR 155 to INR 290 to INR 305 in recent weeks, affecting the building industry severely.

He urged the government to set up a regulatory commission to control the price of cement as it has become clear that the producers are artificially raising the price by reducing production when no other prices connected to the industry have gone up.
